‘Plan a big event they said’ , ‘it’ll be fine they said…’
And they were…
Right ! Sometimes you shouldn’t expect the worst when there aren’t any red-flags shooting your way ; Working with Iris Anderson on the #BIOCLUB event for October the 24th was a truly intensive but completely enjoyable experience … I think I’m hooked.
But honestly, meeting a few of you girls from the York area was really truly invigorating and inspiring. I think it personally made me realise how ‘real’ all of you are.
Sometimes when your communication is limited to the ‘virtual hemisphere’ that social media presents itself to be, you forget how much thought goes behind every ‘retweet’ and ‘like’ and ‘follow’ that comes your way.
So putting some faces to the ‘usernames’ was really special.
So from what we heard: You guys you really loved the variety of speakers that we had during the evening, especially the unconventional architects (Native Architects) and talks and of course the academic ‘spider-man’ (Dr. Chris Holland).
There were so many different dialogues in the evening, and from all the conversations I overheard, there seemed to be slight sense of injustice:
‘ I didn’t know I could help out an eco-architectural firm with a degree in biochemistry’ – or
‘I just want to know what comes between the jump of ‘studying at university’ and being employed full-time in a science-based company.’
‘If I knew this years, ago – I would have gone through all of that stress during ALEVELS’
I really want to address this, and whether it’s with Women in Tech York, or the BioLadies, being a part of a science community is so important during those times you still feel like you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up.
And that’s what GIS really aims to do, now and in the future – present all these options to you on a rose-gold platter !
We have A LOT and I mean quite a big set of plans coming up , and I want you to be a part of it, so keep up with the blog – or if you want the inside-scoop email :email@example.com and we’ll have a chat about all the exciting things YOU can get involved with.
